5 Deputies And 2 Others Shot In Douglas County; 1 Deputy Killed

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – Five deputies and two other people were shot in Douglas County Sunday morning. One of the deputies has died, officials confirmed.
An emergency call came in just after 6:30 a.m. about a domestic violence incident at Copper Canyon Apartments.
The shooting started at the apartment building, which is located near County Line Road between Colorado Boulevard and University Boulevard.

Highway C-470 was closed due to the police activity and investigation and an emergency shelter was set up for people affected.

Authorities were asking everyone in the area to take shelter and avoid windows and exterior walls.
“The scene remains active and please avoid the area,” the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a tweet.

The office said there’s no word on the health status of the deputies who have been hurt and it’s not clear if there are others who are injured.
The number of deputies shot has not been revealed so far. The office is so far only saying “multiple” deputies sustained injuries.
The sheriff’s office said the shelter was set up at East Ridge Rec Center, located at 9568 University Boulevard in Highlands Ranch.
“If anyone has been displaced from their homes due to this event please feel free to head there,” the office tweeted.
C-470 was shut down from Quebec Street to University and County Line was closed from Colorado to University.
Photos from a CBS4 crew at the scene showed a heavy police presence, with numerous ambulances and police cars with their lights flashing.
